Doors Open Huronia 2012 is a celebration of the area’s local history and heritage, offering access to historically significant sites that may not usually be open to the public. Sneak a peek at hidden historically significant places in our area that are featured as part of Doors Open Huronia and all for FREE!
For instance, what about that old one-roomed schoolhouse or that imposing Victorian home? Don’t you ever wonder what is behind their doors? Here’s your chance!
The two communities have joined together to create an exciting historical experience to celebrate the cultural heritage of Huronia. Come out to the Doors Open Huronia Launch Event on Thursday May 31, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Library Restaurant in Midland and discover the history behind this vibrant building!
On Saturday June 2 and Sunday June 3, fill your day by exploring the old and the new, the past and the present of our areas hidden sites. Enjoy the displays, special activities, artisan and community markets and site tours, explore the former homes of the area’s prominent residents, learn about sacred spaces by visiting various churches, or visit the replica 1812 British gunboat at the Penetanguishene Town Dock.
Don’t miss your opportunity to take part in Doors Open Ontario 2012, now considered a cultural phenomenon, with hundreds of communities participating across the province.
